The home page is the starting point for performing tasks in Oracle BI EE. The home page is divided into sections that allow you to quickly start a specific task, find an object, or access technical documentation. It also includes sections that let you quickly access objects you’ve recently viewed, created, or updated, and objects that are most accessed by users for groups you belong to.

For example, you can use the global header to start a new task, search the Oracle BI presentation catalog, access product documentation, or view another object without returning to the home page. Oracle BI EE provides direct access to manuals, context-sensitive help, and libraries that contain conceptual and procedural information to help you understand Oracle BI EE.

The Act As feature allows you to act on behalf of another user in Oracle BI EE. This feature is useful, for example, if you need to work with another user’s dashboard or content, or if IT support staff want to troubleshoot another user’s account.

BI Publisher allows you to create highly formatted reports suitable for printing. BI Publisher reports are built based on BI Publisher data models. A BI Publisher data model can consist of datasets from a wide variety of sources, such as subject areas from a BI server or analyses, SQL queries to relational databases, MDX queries to Essbase or other OLAP sources, LDAP, web services, Microsoft Excel, HTTP -channels or XML files. BI Publisher supports a wide range of layout types, so you can create the full range of documents your organization may need. In Oracle BI EE, you can view, create, edit, and schedule BI Publisher reports, and include them in dashboard pages.
As part of the 11g release, Oracle BI EE includes a fully integrated BI Publisher. All BI Publisher features appear seamlessly in the Oracle BI EE application, and all reports and related objects are created in Oracle BI EE and stored in the Oracle BI presentation directory.

Oracle BI applications consist of industry-specific dashboards and analyzes that are built using industry best practices to cover key functional areas within an organization. Dashboards and analytics are tailored to each end user’s role in the organization.
Typically, Oracle BI applications are integrated with and accessible from other operational applications, such as Oracle Siebel CRM applications, to provide business metrics for analysis in the context of an organization’s business function and industry. Oracle BI applications include Extract Transform Load (ETL) procedures to extract, transform, and load data into Oracle Business Analytics Warehouse. Oracle BI applications also contain metadata that maps to the Oracle Business Analytics Warehouse and transactional database, and defines key metrics and metrics for all levels of the organization. These measures and metrics are available to content designers in Oracle Business Intelligence.
