If you are still managing and analyzing your data by hand… stop. Robots are smart enough to do that for you now, and you have better things to do while you’re driving, like using AI-generated insights from your data to make big, important decisions.

Business Intelligence (BI) software uses APIs, automation, artificial intelligence, and other tools to simplify data collection, organization, analysis, and visualization. It takes data and basically does everything but the actual decision making for you.

Software Engineer Vs. Software Developer: Which Is ‘better’?

There are hundreds of platforms that market themselves as BI or BI-adjacent tools, but not all of them help you gain actionable insights from your data while being accessible to businesses of all sizes. I spent several weeks testing dozens of BI tools, and based on my research and time spent testing the platforms, these eight stood out.

All of our best apps lists are written by people who have spent most of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it was intended to be used, and evaluating it based on the criteria we set for the class. We are never paid for placement in our articles on any apps or links to any sites – we value the trust our readers place in us to provide genuine reviews of the categories and apps we review. To learn more about our process, read our full summary of how we select apps to feature on the blog.

To test these business intelligence tools, I created an account for each platform, imported sample data, and tested key features such as data source linking, dataset linking, visualization and dashboard building, and AI-generated insights.

Here are my picks for the eight best business intelligence software solutions based on the above criteria, extensive research into these applications, and my insights from testing them.

Software Developer Statistics You Should Know In 2024

Datapine’s ratings alone were enough to suspect that it deserved a spot on this list, and testing it only confirmed my hypothesis.

I was particularly impressed with the platform’s Smart Insights tab. You’ll be greeted with a series of written extracts from your data, along with annotated graphs that communicate these insights. They’re broken down by category, with tabs for growth and forecasting, value drivers, key segments, deviations, correlations, and even interactive what-if scenarios that let you see how certain factors would translate into results.

I also found the app’s dashboards to be very flexible (and almost… fun?). You can drag charts anywhere on the dashboard and they are easily editable. Customize fonts, colors, gradients, shadows, titles and subtitles, and even label your dashboard with hundreds of fun icons. Certain visualizations, including maps, offer interactivity that allows you to zoom in on specific areas to see your data in greater detail.

When you create a new data visualization, you can enable various conditional formatting options. For example, you can assign meaning to colors, gradients, and more to reflect quality, such as values or fixed limits.

The app also integrates artificial intelligence and smart prediction. You can enable alerts that identify anomalies in the data and ways you track your KPIs and notify you of any changes. You can even edit charts to predict how your data will evolve over time.

There are more great features like sharing your dashboard with colleagues, automating reports on a specific schedule and more – but you get the idea. datapine is a premium BI application that will almost certainly cover all your bases.

Admittedly, datapine is a pretty comprehensive premium option, and it’s priced really high compared to many other BI software options. Make sure you need all its features before you drop the cash.

If you’re a sole proprietor looking for a free BI tool to manage and analyze your data, Zoho Analytics has you covered. Its personal plan lets you download the platform to your local server for free and access powerful features that many BI tools would charge for – conversational AI, unlimited reports, predictive analytics, and more.

Multiple Hiring For Data Science, Analytics, Data …

Not everyone can (or wants to) be a BI expert. For beginners, Zoho Analytics is also one of the easiest options. It offers simple tutorials and demonstration videos to get you started, and the interface is simple enough to navigate without much of a learning curve.

I’ve used Zia, Zoho’s AI assistant, through other apps in its suite of tools, but that was still the most impressive part of the app for me. Not only did Zia create a formula to process my data exactly as I needed, but it was also able to perform predictive analytics based on natural language. I asked it what my income would be at a given time and it created a written and graphical breakdown of its prediction.

Zoho products are quite notorious for having a relatively dated user interface, but in the case of BI software, that doesn’t matter. Most platforms in this category haven’t quite nailed the sleek and modern interface of the mid-2020s, so Zoho fits the bill.

While it integrates seamlessly with other Zoho apps, if you can’t find the integration you need in the Zoho suite, Zoho Analytics integrates with Zoho, opening the door to a lot of automation. The funnel leads from your ad tool directly to Zoho, or connect it to your favorite spreadsheet app to automatically import newly entered data.

Hire Web Developers: Complete Guide 2022

Domo excels across the board as a great BI tool, to the point where it was hard to decide which superlative it deserved the most. Overall, I found it to be an incredibly solid option for all your data management needs.

First, it supports more Data Connectors than any other platform I’ve tested, over 440. And its own app store will almost certainly have the APIs you need to get the job done.

Once your data is connected to the platform, managing it is just as easy. Its Magic ETL tool has a drag-and-drop interface and allows you to prepare your data for analysis, create relationships with your data, and automate data filtering without any SQL knowledge. The app’s Beast Mode feature also lets you do calculations with your data.

In addition to these oddly named data management and manipulation features, I was amazed at how quickly the app loaded. Whether I opened a sample dataset to look at raw data or created a new dashboard with custom insights, it took a few seconds at most to load.

Dashboards: Dead Or Alive? The Evolution From Data Graveyards Into Data Gold Mines

As someone who has used Microsoft Word and Excel for over a decade, Microsoft Power BI felt eerily familiar. The user interface is designed very similarly to other Microsoft products – similar icons, menu placement, and everything in between. I found this very helpful when using the app, as BI software tends to have a notoriously steep learning curve.

It’s not just the layout that makes this app great for those experienced with Microsoft’s suite of tools. Integrations with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Teams are just a click or two away from the top menu bar. This allows you to import data from Excel spreadsheets into Power BI, export data visualizations from Power BI to PowerPoint, and more.

In addition, the application integrates natively with Power Automate, Microsoft’s platform that connects and automates hundreds of software (including virtually all Microsoft applications). Like many other Microsoft applications, the platform offers both desktop and web-based versions.

In addition to all these Microsoft integration wins, I found the app to be really intuitive. Without manual data modeling or connection drawing, the platform automatically recognized that my two datasets were connected. Once the connection was established, a change to one automatically affected the other.

Data & Analytics Resume Examples For 2023

I also appreciated the application’s query editor, which keeps track of all historical changes to the data. If I messed up and deleted some important rows from my dataset, Power BI would remove the time machine and bring us back to the old days.
